The genius of the shutdown is that folks are starting to receive their affordable care act subsidy plan estimates for next year in the mail, and seeing the cost is doubling or worse.   

I'm not sure if the impact of the Medicaid cuts are being conveyed though.  It may just be that folks will be dropped next year cold turkey.

Aside from hoping Republicans cave under pressure, how exactly are Dems going to get out of this shutdown? Republicans can “negotiate” or end the filibuster, so they have ways out. But it doesn’t seem like Dems have a real way out. Are they ready to keep the shutdown going into the holiday season just to protect their necks and not cave? Dems are claiming this fight is about health care. But it’s pretty obvious the main reason this shutdown happened was because Schumer and congressional Dems are scared to look weak and face primary challengers.

Falsely claims ICE agents have to go in and get “long term criminals, hardened criminals.”

Most of the questioners are obvious MAGA disinformation suck-ups, long strings of fraudulent MAGA propaganda framed as a “question.”

Falsely claims they built a road that unleashed billions and billions of wealth.  Number one country with AI, beating everybody because of our energy.  Says our grid is old and tired so he’s allowing the AI companies to build their own plants and be their own utility and they will put their excess capacity back into the grid.

Says he isn’t sure AI will be a great thing then contradicts and says it will be.  Says Facebook’s building is bigger than Manhattan.  

Most of the craziest push-poll style questions are from a reporter who says she was mugged and that everything is different and safe now.

They finally cut away at the point when CNN’ s own reporter was posing another question.

The panel after cutting away was pure sanewash, reframing Trump’s obvious gaffe of admitting Republicans don’t care about health care as if it’s some brilliant demonstration of “The Art Of The Deal.”

Host oddly framing the shutdown and crisis as if it’s a choice by the people, because they don’t want to pay more for health care, almost as they’re being too cheap.

MAGA mouthpiece David Urban admitting Johnson shut down the House because he doesn’t want any of the republicans to say the wrong thing on camera.  Admits that if the government is closed, it’s failing. Says they will make a deal and make this a win for Republicans.  

Brings Emmanuel back.  He points out that the risk of Democrats being blamed for the shutdown is negated, thanks to how Trump and the Republicans handled this.  Says the Dems could use sharper messaging to point out their goal is health care.  Things like pointing out how Trump is giving $20 Billion to Argentina but won’t do anything for 20 million Americans to get health care.

I know the reason. I know its because the GOP is beholden to their constituents, the lobbyists and billionaires. But it really seems like they could get an easy win here. Just actually negotiate with the Dems. You know we suck at messaging. Just meet their demands and twist it as wins. GOP were the adults in the room and ended the shut down. GOP negotiated a better bill to save medicare cuts and keep insurance premiums down. GOP made improvements to the big beautiful bill to further help real patriots. Dems will try to counter the messaging. Dem voters wont care will just be relieved premiums wont go up and that the government starts working again.  GOP voters wont know or care. People don't realize just how much cover the media gives Republicans in the name of "both sides" coverage. Even Trump sending in the National Guard to states gets this at some level as if it's Pritzker/Newsom vs Trump in some sort of spat and not governors fighting back against blatant violations of states rights.

The longer the shutdown lasts, the more Democrats should escalate their demands. Obviously, there is concern that doing so may cause public opinion to turn against them, but I doubt this will happen if they keep their demands tied to healthcare benefits and other social programs. People like being able to receive healthcare, so Dems fighting *harder* so *more* people can receive healthcare *more often* really shouldn't cause public outcry.

The GOP needs this shutdown to end way more than Democrats do.

Air traffic controllers. They are required to come in to work even though they aren't getting paid. They will be back-paid (historically, but who knows with this administration). They're already over worked. They'll start calling in sick. If they are or are not doesn't matter. This will cause delays. Delays cascade and compound. Pretty quick every flight is delayed and people start asking why. This is what happened last major shutdown with Trump as President. 


There are two major factors here that will make this worse though: Trump has been gutting the FAA, and air traffic controllers are ALREADY on a major strain. And the entire economy is under unusual strain. So we could just see a fucking major air accident before we see this breaking point.

My rough estimate is that it will end on October 28th or 29th. This is based on the estimated pay cycle of TSA and FAA essential employees.

There's really no telling these days.

On one hand, the last one ended because TSA got the '[Blue Flu](https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/05/opinions/tsa-blue-flu-economic-injustice-granderson)' aka they called out sick, en masse, and caused so many headaches for politicians suddenly they saw eye-to-eye. I've seen a separate post that by Monday, they may start doing similar again. 

OTOH, Trump v2 has said they are wanting to fire people. And during COVID, air traffic went to ATC zero in quite a few places, so the administration may say screw it, if you don't go to work you're fired, even if you're sick. And not enough people to keep certain towers open? Screw it, ATC zero it and let the airlines work it out. 

There's no real telling what they are going to do. I suspect it'll be over soon(ish), quite likely before 2026, but... who knows.

Until the stock market goes down. It's a win win for the rich, politicians especially gop. Stocks are up they're getting money, federal workers checks are backpaid, you don't get paid you get mad and humans are easily manipulated so it's their chance to gain voters or protest the opposing party

4 weeks with the dems cracking first. There is will no healthcare concessions. There will be some sort of compromise. The other less likely but possible option is Trump will taco and give in to heath care demands. But nothing will happen in the short term

As others have said, it'll last probably 3-4 weeks. It will end in some sort of deal where Democrats will be able to say they "saved" healthcare but it won't actually be anything meaningful, and then Trump will try to take credit for it. His supporters will believe him, everyone else won't. Effectively we'll be right back where we started.

I think flight delays will start after 2-3 weeks.  As we get closer to Thanksgiving, there will be more pressure. So probably 2-3 weeks on short end, no longer than 6 weeks.  

I’m probably of the minority opinion, but I don’t think the dems have much reason to cave.  Polling seems to be in their favor and it’ll be a huge win if they can get the healthcare concessions.

The longest was 34 days during trumps first term (Dec 18 through Jan 19). I have a sneaking suspicion this will be a lot longer. Because when it does officially reopen, jobs, unemployment, and CPI inflation data gets calculated and released. 

When that happens, it will not be pretty. Enjoy and take advantage of your 401k’s now. Because they’re taking a huge hit when Uncle Sam is back online. And if you haven’t already, you might want to start buying some precious metals.

Longest previous shutdown was 35 days I think. I'd be surprised if this one lasts as long. Most likely outcome is enough Democrats cross the floor to end it, probably within the next week or so, strengthening the GOP position even further and leading to much worse
